1. Who controls your data

tethub is the controller of personal data processed through the Service, unless a specific feature identifies another controller. Privacy questions: support@tethub.co.

2. What we collect

Account & profile

  • Name, username, email, phone number (if provided), password hash, campus affiliation, and profile details you choose to add.
  • Stable provider identifiers when you use Google or Apple sign-in (see section 3).

Activity on the Service

  • Posts, comments, likes, follows, listings, housing requests, event interest, messages metadata, searches, and saves.
  • Transaction and promotion records when you use paid features (payment card data is handled by payment processors, not stored by us in full).

Device & technical data

  • IP address, browser/app type, device identifiers, approximate location derived from IP or campus selection, crash logs, and performance diagnostics.
  • Cookies and similar technologies — see our Cookie Use notice.

Support

  • Information you send to support, including screenshots or attachments you choose to provide.

3. Sign in with Google & Apple

When you choose Continue with Google or Continue with Apple, you are redirected (or prompted in-app) to authenticate with that provider. With your authorisation, we receive only the information needed to create or sign you into a tethub account.

Google

  • Data we may receive: Google account email, given/family name, and a unique Google user ID (subject / sub), plus basic profile fields Google returns for the OpenID scopes we request (openid email profile).
  • How we use it: to authenticate you, create or match an existing account, display your name where relevant, and prevent duplicate accounts.
  • What we do not do: we do not sell Google user data; we do not use Google sign-in data to build advertising audiences for unrelated third parties; we do not request Google scopes beyond what is needed for sign-in.
  • Google’s own processing is described in the Google Privacy Policy. You can revoke tethub access in your Google Account permissions.

Apple

  • Data we may receive: a unique Apple user ID (sub), email (or a private relay address if you use Hide My Email), and — on first authorisation only — the name you choose to share.
  • How we use it: to authenticate you, create or match an account, and contact you about your account using the email Apple provides (including relay addresses).
  • Hide My Email: if enabled, Apple forwards messages we send to your relay address. We treat the relay address as your account email for service communications.
  • What we do not do: we do not sell Apple user data or use Sign in with Apple data for unrelated advertising.
  • Apple’s processing is described in the Apple Privacy Policy. You can manage Sign in with Apple apps in your Apple ID settings.

Account linking, deletion & control

  • If the email from Google/Apple matches an existing tethub account, we may link the provider ID to that account for future sign-in.
  • You may request deletion of your tethub account and associated personal data via settings or support@tethub.co (required for App Store / Sign in with Apple compliance). Deletion removes or anonymises your tethub profile data subject to legal retention needs; it does not delete your Google or Apple accounts.
  • After deletion, provider tokens and stored Google/Apple identifiers tied to your account are removed or irreversibly disassociated from active profiles.

4. How we use data

  • Create and secure your account, authenticate sessions, and prevent abuse.
  • Show campus-relevant feed, shop, housing, and event experiences.
  • Enable messaging, notifications, and recommendations you may find useful.
  • Process payments and run advertising/promotion features you opt into.
  • Improve product quality, measure funnel and performance, and debug issues.
  • Comply with law, enforce our Terms, and protect users from fraud or harm.
  • Send service messages (security, policy updates). Marketing emails only if you opt in or as otherwise allowed by law — you can unsubscribe.

5. Legal bases

Depending on your location, we rely on one or more of the following:

  • Contract — to provide the Service you requested (account, listings, chat).
  • Legitimate interests — to secure the platform, prevent fraud, understand product usage, and improve features, balanced against your rights.
  • Consent — where required (for example certain cookies, marketing, or optional data sharing). You may withdraw consent without affecting prior lawful processing.
  • Legal obligation — when we must retain or disclose information to meet applicable law.

For users in Nigeria, we process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and related rules. For users in the EEA/UK, GDPR/UK GDPR concepts of controller, rights, and lawful bases also guide our practices where they apply.

6. Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as needed with:

  • Other users — profile and content you make public or send in chat/listings.
  • Service providers — hosting, email/SMS delivery, analytics, crash reporting, cloud storage, CDN, and payment processors under contracts that require appropriate protection.
  • Sign-in providers — we exchange authentication tokens/claims with Google or Apple only when you use those sign-in methods; we do not give them your tethub posts or messages.
  • Authorities — when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and integrity of the Service.
  • Business transfers — if we merge, acquire, or sell assets, data may transfer under continued protection commitments.

7. Retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above: while your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterward for backups, dispute resolution, security logs, and legal compliance. You may request deletion; some records (for example payment invoices or fraud logs) may be retained longer where required.

8. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organisational measures appropriate to the risk (encryption in transit, access controls, hashed passwords, monitoring). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please use a strong unique password and report suspected compromise immediately.

9. Your rights & account deletion

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of your personal data.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete data or request account erasure (including accounts created with Google or Apple).
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.
  • Data portability for data you provided, where technically feasible.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise these rights, use in-app settings where available or email support@tethub.co. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. Account deletion requests are typically completed within a reasonable period after verification.

10. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 16 (or a higher age required locally). If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

11. International transfers

We may process data on servers or with vendors located outside your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as contractual protections) for cross-border transfers.

12. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies for essential login/session security, preferences, and (where enabled) analytics and performance. Details are in our Cookie Use notice.

13. Changes

We may update this Policy periodically. Material changes will be highlighted by updating the date above and, where appropriate, additional notice. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
